Poetry Friday: It's Hot Outside!

A little over a month ago we had 3 inches of snow on the ground. This last week, we've had temps in the 90s and feels-like temps with humidity above 100.

The weather inspired this week's poem.

Lazy Hazy Days of May

Buggy air
Muggy air
Heavy hard to breathe air

Puffy hair
Sweaty hair
Firmly on my face hair

Brightest glare
Hottest glare
Angry sun is growing glare

Little prayer
Bigger prayer
Send some cooler air prayer

How's the weather where you live? Has it inspired your writing this week?

This week's round up is hosted by Buffy's blog. Be sure to stop by and enjoy all of the posts.

As always, thanks for visiting. Happy Poem-Making!

  1. It's crazy how fast the weather has changed, isn't it? I like all the patterns in your poem! (I solved the hair problem by getting lots of mine cut off!!)

Hey, someone asked for October 12 in the Poetry Friday Roundup call before you did. Come back and pick another date, please!

  2. Wonderful poem -- made me smile. Love how you used the same end rhyme for all the stanzas. :)

  3. Love this, a just-right poem for our mercurial weather! We don't have the humidity, but the ups and downs in temps are happening here in Denver, too. That ending "send some cooler air prayer" is terrific! I guess that's what we'll be doing for a while!

    1. Yes Linda, we're getting weather that we usually don't see until mid-July or early August. Hoping for a break soon. Thanks for stopping by. I'm glad you enjoyed the poem.

  4. I some times think if we didn't have the weather, there'd be nothing to talk about. I'm glad we're weather poets together this week--great minds think alike. ;-)

  5. Ha! This makes me laugh....I'm right there with the puffy hair stuck to my face and five minutes of sheer ick when getting into my car after work despite the sun screen on my windshield.

    1. Yes Linda, getting into my hot black car is the worst. Shower time as soon as I get home. Glad you enjoyed the poem. Thanks for stopping by.

  6. Sounds like your weather has been like ours--at least that buggy, muggy air inspired a fun poem! Love all your repeating end rhymes.

  7. Charming poem Kimberly, and I love the steamy, hair-crazed photo too! In Chicago we had a few very nice summer like days and today the sun was out but it felt more like fall. So I'm sending you our crisp cooler weather, thanks.

    1. Here's to crisp cooler weather, Michelle. I'm just about 3 hours south of you in Illinois, so maybe it's headed our way :)

  8. I love it! Your weather sounds a lot like ours--we went straight from snow to heat and humidity. At least we get a little break today. Love the poem!

    1. Thanks, Kay! We had a small break, but the humidity made a comeback today.

  9. Fun! I really liked all those end rhymes. In my opinion, heat and humidity are a toxic combo! We're facing a high of 50 tomorrow--a bit chilly, but preferable!

  10. Fun poem, Kimberly! And all too familiar for us folks in the north central Florida. Alas, no sea breeze here.

    1. Thanks, Michelle. Yes, we traveled south to Alabama and Florida a few years ago. I remember it being quite soupy, too. Hoping for a bit cooler and drier air for both of us :)

  11. Hi there Kimberly - this poem made me smile. Can I call this our national anthem here in Singapore? We are the country of Hu-Mi-Di-Ty! :) - Myra (GatheringBooks)
